Trying Hard to Resist Spoilers

April 24, 2008

A general, spoiler-free article, by spacepug

I am the first to admit that I have been caught up in the spoiler frenzy surrounding Battlestar Galactica for the last several months, but I may finally be finding the strength to resist, and my timing couldn’t be better.

I read something a few weeks back that crossed the line (and don’t worry, I won’t tell you what the spoiler is). By “crossing the line,” I mean it was the first time I read something and immediately said to myself, ” I wish I didn’t know that.”

I knew most of what was coming for The Ties That Bind, and quite frankly I‘ve heard a great deal about what’s in store from now until the middle of the season. I can definitely say that the cost of knowing in advance is that seeing the final product isn’t quite as intense an emotional experience. Naturally, as the season progresses, my emotional involvement with these characters is growing, since more is at stake.

Now word is out across the internet that fans have got their hands on a page from one of the final episodes of Galactica, as well as from the end of Caprica, the Galactica prequel currently at the casting stage. Whether or not these rumours are true, or the scripts they have seen are genuine or even if the powers that be don’t make changes on set on the last day of shooting, I don’t think I’m willing to take that chance.

I’m swearing off spoilers. I’ve invested years in getting to know these characters and this show. I don’t want to diminish the final effect the creators intend, even if it is a punch to the gut.

However, with the long wait we’re going to have to endure before the final episodes air, this is going to be harder to give up than coffee.

For those of you who still want to know, after the cut is where you will find links to the spoiler sources mentioned above.
