Who are we? The 13th Colony, Vancouver’s Battlestar Galactica Fan Club. Formed as a club through meetup.com in February 2007, the group already has more than 50 registered members, of which a number of us are bloggers. Most of us are fans of the new series, and some hold a special place in their hearts for the original incarnation.
In the Battlestar Galactica universe, when humanity left the planet Kobol, 12 tribes went one way to form the 12 colonies that were attacked by the Cylons as the television series began. Another tribe, the so-called 13th tribe, went off in search of Earth. The current incarnation of Battlestar Galatica, which airs on Sci Fi in the US, and on Space in Canada, is shot in Vancouver, BC. Since we’re here too, we decided to declare ourselves as the mythical 13th tribe.
Of course, when the series returns for its fourth and possibly final season in January 2008, the showrunners may actually provide us with an answer as to what exactly happened to the final group of colonists and if they ever found Earth. Until then, we’re going to enjoy the particular connection our city has to the show we love.
