Our 1st Anniversary Party

January 30, 2008

Fittingly perhaps, we had thirteen members of The 13th Colony show up for our Coffee & Cake & Cylons event on the weekend. Anniversary Party
There was much discussion about Razor and the so-called “Last Supper” photo, as well as speculation as to who the Final Cylon must be…and when Space Channel will actually air Season Four here in Canada. We’ve also come up with a list of ideas for the 2008 Scouting Missions, which will follow in a later post. For now, I’ll leave you with more of our photographic shenanigans…this one is called “The Joy of Cake.”

Immediately after this photo was taken, Frik fell over onto the icing.

Coffee & Cake & Cylons

January 15, 2008

Today is the first anniversary of The 13th Colony. Granted, on that first day when I finally screwed up my courage to start the club, I was it’s only member. But one year later, we have 95 members in 5 countries. We’ve held 14 events, including three “location scouting missions.” We’ve had more coffee than I can count.  I knew when I started this club that there had to be more Battlestar Galactica fans in Vancouver than just me. Turns out I was right! But I also suspect there are even more out there….looking for us!

So, here’s your chance!  In honour of our first birthday, we’re doing it again…on Saturday, January 26th at 1pm, a bunch of us are meeting for coffee & cake to celebrate, and of course, we’re bringing along our mini-cylon friends.  Click here for the details.

Supper’s On!

January 7, 2008

Battlestar Galactica fans must be absolutely starving, given the frenzy developing over the last couple of days following the release of a photo from the January 11th issue of Entertainment Weekly — a take on DaVinci’s “The Last Supper” featuring characters from BSG and some cryptic comments from creator Ron Moore.

It’s a cleverly composed image.  Clever and revealing just as it is, but the fans are going much further than simple analysis of the photo.  They’re using software to mirror one side of the image onto the other, wondering if it changes the relationships hinted at.  Add in a dash of theology and trivia, and we’ve got speculation aplenty.

I love the fact that the fans are so keen on this show they will invest a great deal of time and energy in speculation.  I love reading it.  But I think it is also a sign of desperation.  This hiatus has been WAY too long.

Did I mention, it appears Sci-Fi has set an air date of April 4th for the Season Four premiere rather than March as indicated in recent promotional materials.  No word yet on an airdate for Canada, but it will likely be the same.

Finally!

January 3, 2008

We have a date for the North American release of Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica, as well as some details of the extras to be included in the DVD set.  I’ll be marching off to my favourite electronics store on March 25th to pick up said DVD.   Just in time to ramp up the fans for the return of Season Four the following weekend.
